Plan a Workation to Monterey, California

Headed to Monterey for IntelliEvent’s latest event? Now is the perfect time to pack your bags, head to sunny California and rub elbows with the IntelliEvent team and your local peers.

Be sure to enjoy all the area has to offer during your ‘workation’ and build in some extra time to explore some of the area’s hottest attractions. Here are just a few ideas to kick off your itinerary!

Monterey Coastal Recreation Trail

Just a few blocks from IntelliEvent’s headquarters is Monterey’s iconic Coastal Recreation Trail. Walk, run or bike this scenic byway which takes you through some of the area’s hottest attractions including Old Fisherman’s Wharf, Cannery Row, the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Lovers Point.

Visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium & Cannery Row

No visit to Monterey is complete without a visit to the world-renowned Monterey Bay Aquarium. Anchored on Cannery Row, this one-of-a-kind aquarium will give you a glimpse into what lies beneath the ocean’s surface.

If you’re already in the area, then pay a visit to Cannery Row. This historical street has a little something for everyone—shoppers, foodies, families and more will all find something to their liking.

Take a Whale Watching Tour

Set sea with a local whale watching tour and explore what is known as the “Whale Watching Capital of the World.” Several whale watching charter boats line Old Fisherman’s Wharf, offering opportunities to catch rare glimpses of orca, humpback and blue whales year-round.

Join a Guided Tour

Get a local’s perspective of the area and sign up for one of the many guided tours in Monterey County. Foodies will love either the Carmel Food Tour or the Monterey Food Tour while movie-lovers will find delight in the behind-the-scenes scoop on filming locations on a Monterey Movie Tour. Several wine tour operators are also available for those who want to enjoy our award-winning wines responsibly.

Explore Pebble Beach & 17-Mile Drive

Wind along Pebble Beach’s scenic 17-Mile Drive for jaw-dropping views of the iconic Pebble Beach Golf Links, Lone Cypress Tree and multi-million dollar mansions. Be sure to stop in at The Inn at Spanish Bay for a cocktail around their outdoor firepits. Sunset is especially a magical time of day as the lone bagpiper makes his way around the course.

Shop Along Ocean Avenue in Carmel-by-the-Sea

Stroll along the cobblestone streets that Clint Eastwood was once mayor of and soak in this charming European village. Choose from an array of mouthwatering restaurants and work it off with some serious retail therapy. Afterwards, head down to Carmel Beach for stunning white sand beaches and coastal views.

Take a Scenic Drive down Highway 1

Buckle up for one of the nation’s top rated road trips as you make your way down Highway 1 to Big Sur. It will be hard to keep your eyes on the road with awe-inspiring views of rugged cliffs, expansive ocean views and the famed Bixby Bridge. Make it all the way down to Nepenthe for a tasty Ambrosia burger served with a view.

Sip Local Wines in Carmel Valley

Find a favorite new wine as you drive through rolling hills and vineyards to charming Carmel Valley village. Just a 20 minute drive from Monterey, here you will find over a dozen tasting rooms all within walking distance for your choosing. Be sure to take home a few bottles as souvenirs. Keep in mind that chardonnays and pinot noirs are our specialties!

Take a Hike

There’s no better way to surround yourself in Monterey’s beauty than out and about in the Great Outdoors. Choose from a plethora of day hikes for every level of hiker – including easy yet rewarding trails at Point Lobos State Reserve to thigh-burning terrain at Pinnacles National Park. Other outdoor playgrounds include Jacks Peak, Andrew Molera State Park and Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park.

We hope you take advantage of these ideas and more during IPS and make this a ‘workation’ to remember!
